Itinerary
Giorno 1 — Kuala Lumpur → Batu Caves → Ipoh → Cameron Highlands
Free transfer from your hotel to the starting point of the tour. Early in the morning departure for Cameron Highlands. Short stop at Batu Caves. We will travel up the Malay Peninsula to the town of Tapah, where the mountain road begins that will take us to an altitude of 1500 meters. This area is rich in lush tropical vegetation and bamboo. Along the way, we will make a stop at the Iskandar waterfall, and we will also come across several simple villages inhabited by the Orang Asli, the indigenous people of the Malay Peninsula who still largely rely on gathering natural fibers and hunting for their livelihood. We are expected to arrive at the Cameron Highlands plateau in the afternoon. Located on the northwestern border of the state of Pahang, this is the largest cultivated plain in Malaysia, alternating with lush and wild high-altitude forests. Famous for its tea plantations and mild temperatures, which provide relief from the equatorial heat, the Highlands are named after the English topographer William Cameron, who first mapped the area. The Cameron Highlands still retain a characteristic belle époque style, with its orderly farms, Tudor-style country houses, English gardens, and golf courses. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a pleasant and characteristic Afternoon Tea, and then visit some local fruit and vegetable markets. I will arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner free. Lunch and dinner free.

Giorno 2 — Cameron Highlands → Bukit Merah → Penang
Breakfast. In the morning, visit one of the many tea plantations where you will witness the various processing stages. Then, start the descent towards Ipoh, the capital of the Perak State, where you will walk through old streets in the city center, admiring its refined colonial architecture. With the Kinta River dividing the old city from the new one, Ipoh enchants with its art and street food - a bit like a languid version of George Town. You will visit one of the many Buddhist temples carved into the rock. Continuing north, we finally arrive at Bukit Merah, a small island on the lake that can be reached by boat. It is home to the Orangutan Conservation Center, the only one of its kind on the Malay Peninsula. In this center, these primates, found orphaned or near death in the Malaysian Borneo jungle, are housed to undergo a course of care and rehabilitation. Various aspects of research and study on these primates are also addressed, with the aim of raising awareness among federal authorities and future generations about the endangered future of orangutans. After visiting the center, the journey will continue towards the state of Penang. In the afternoon, arrival on the island will be expected, crossing one of the longest bridges in Asia, the Penang Bridge, which is exactly 13.5 km long. I will arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon. Lunch and dinner free.
PLEASE NOTE: The tea plantation is closed to the public on Mondays and during national holidays. The excursion to the Orangutan Island in Bukit Merah may not be possible due to low water levels.

Giorno 3 — Penang → Banding
Breakfast. Early in the morning, I meet the guide at the hotel and we set off to visit the city of Georgetown: its unique historical features have made it a UNESCO site. We start the visit at Kek Lok Si, which consists of 7 temples and a tall Pagoda, all characterized by carved pillars, precious woodwork, vibrant paintings, and an abundance of lanterns that create a visually striking impression. After descending back into the city, we pass by the ruins of Fort Cornwallis, the headquarters of the English military/colonial detachment. From here, we take a walking tour through the typical streets of the old town center with its charming and artistic murals; open-air food and spice markets that allow us to taste the daily life of this city, as well as small artisan shops that produce utensils, incense sticks for use in temples, and local pastries. After passing by the Kapitan Kling Mosque and the beautiful St. George Church, a symbol of the large local Christian community, we walk through narrow streets where old housing complexes of the Chinese/Malay Peranakan community stand. Here, we visit the beautiful Khoo Kongsi clan house: named after a prominent Chinese family who were among the wealthy Chinese merchants of the 17th century. The famous Khoo Kongsi temple was built in 1906, when the Khoo clan was at the height of their wealth and eminence in Penang society. At the end of the tour, overland transfer with the Italian-speaking guide, taking approximately 3 hours, to reach Lake Temenggor and the Belum forest. Check-in at the resort overlooking the lake and free time to relax surrounded by tropical nature. The Belum-Temengor forest complex is the largest on the Malay Peninsula. It lies in the state of Perak, in the Hulu Perak region, not far from the border with southern Thailand. With a history spanning more than 130 million years, this rainforest is considered one of the oldest in the world, older even than the Amazon and the Congo Basin. Within it lies the man-made lake Tasik Temenggor, which extends over 15,200 hectares and is dotted with hundreds of islands. Dinner.
Giorno 4 — Banding
Breakfast. At 9.00 you meet your guide and set off on the excursion into the unspoilt Belum Rainforest. The adventure begins with a boat crossing of Lake Temenggor, set in the heart of the lush rainforest. Once you reach the shore, you continue with a pleasant, easy trek immersed in primordial nature, until you come to striking waterfalls, where a stop is made for a packed lunch. On the way back to the resort there is also a visit to a village of the Orang Asli, the native inhabitants of the forest. I will return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner.
