Giorno 6 — Londra
Today we invite you to discover the Urban Beat of one of London's most eclectic areas.
Start with a walking tour through Shoreditch and Brick Lane, in the beating heart of London's most creative side. As you walk among walls decorated with street art by Banksy, ROA, Ben Eine and Stik, you can lose yourself among vintage markets, independent boutiques, alternative bookshops and small cafés that look as though they have come straight off a film set. In this area music is everywhere, not just in passers-by's earphones, but in the venues, the shops and even the alleyways. You can stop at Rough Trade East, one of the city's best-loved record shops, which often hosts free live sets and acoustic performances. The Old Truman Brewery too, a former brewery now converted into a space for events and markets, hosts independent music festivals and DJ sets throughout the year. If you are after a relaxed atmosphere, 91 Living Room offers brunches accompanied by live music, perfect for a break between one stall and the next.
For a first immersion in the world of craft beer, Brick Lane Tap Room serves local beers in an informal setting, while Kill The Cat is a gem for those looking for unusual beers and limited productions from around the world. After lunch, continue towards Hackney Wick, an area that was once an industrial district and today is an open-air laboratory of urban creativity. Here you can feel the passion for independent art and music. The converted industrial spaces house recording studios, workshops and alternative venues, where music often meets craft beer.
Crate Brewery is the perfect place to begin the afternoon: overlooking the canal, it is famous for its Pale Ales and for the pizzas served on long shared tables. The atmosphere is often enlivened by acoustic or electronic sets that blend with the chatter of the customers. A little further on you find Howling Hops, the first London brewery to serve directly from the tanks: here taste takes centre stage, but the soundtrack, often curated with ambient and electronic sounds, helps create a complete sensory experience. Beer Merchants Tap is a true institution for beer lovers. As well as twenty constantly rotating taps, it hosts weekly music events, vinyl listening evenings and small funk, soul or disco sets. For a more underground touch you can venture as far as Two Tribes, near Hackney Central, a brewery closely tied to the world of electronic music and London clubbing.
In the evening Hackney Wick lights up with fresh energy. You can dine on the canal at Crate or at Grow, an eco-friendly creative space that combines live music, art and local gastronomy. Their concerts range from experimental jazz to reggae and soft electronica, perfect for a chilled evening. To round the day off in style you can head up to the rooftop of the Lord Napier Star, an iconic venue with colourful murals, or enjoy a live session at the White Post, often frequented by young musicians from the indie and electronic scene.
