Auto
Giorno 3 — Aberdares → Lake Nakuru National Park
Breakfast. Departure for Lake Nakuru National Park. I arrive at the lodge for lunch. Lake Nakuru is one of the lakes in the Rift Valley, at an altitude of 1754 m above sea level. The name Nakuru comes from the Maasai language and means "dust" or "dusty place". The National Park (188 km² in size) was established in 1961, around the lake of the same name, primarily to protect the large colony of pink flamingos that lived here, feeding on microcrustaceans and algae. The number of flamingos varies depending on the amount of food, which is related to the salinity of the water. The land around the lake is marshy, but as you move away from the water, it becomes dry and turns into forest, dry forest, woodland, and flat savannah. According to the 2009 census, there were over 25 black rhinos (one of the largest concentrations in the country) and about 70 white rhinos. In the afternoon, photo safari in the park. Dinner. Accommodation Lake Nakuru Lodge.
Auto
Giorno 4 — Lake Nakuru National Park → Masai Mara
Breakfast. Departure for Masai Mara. I arrive at the lodge for lunch. The Amboseli National Park is a protected natural area in Kenya established in 1974. The Amboseli park area has been inhabited since the 17th century by the nomadic Masai shepherds who called it Empusel, which means "salty and dusty place" in their language. The park is located in Kajiado County, in southern Kenya near the border with Tanzania, not far from Mount Kilimanjaro. The territory covers an area of about 39,000 hectares of savannah, which falls entirely within the ecoregion of northern Acacia-Commiphora woodland and scrubland. Within the park, there are different environments ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Ambosel to wetlands with sulfur springs, savannah, and forests. Amboseli is well known for its populations of large mammals, particularly the savannah elephant. The park also hosts the black buffalo, the striped wildebeest, the plains zebra, the impala, and the Masai giraffe. In the afternoon, photo safari in the park. Dinner. Accommodation Mara Sopa Lodge.
Giorno 5 — Masai Mara
Full board at the lodge. Day of photosafari in the park. Accommodation Mara Sopa Lodge.
Auto
Giorno 6 — Masai Mara → Lake Naivasha
Breakfast. Departure for Lake Naivasha. I arrive at the lodge for lunch. Lake Naivasha is located at the highest point of the Rift Valley at 1,884 meters, within a complex geological combination of volcanic rocks and sedimentary deposits left by an ancient and larger lake dating back to the Pleistocene. In addition to seasonal streams, the lake is fed by two permanent rivers, the Malewa and the Gilgil. It has a surface area of 139 km² and is surrounded by a swampy area of about 64 km². The lake is home to various species of wildlife, including over 400 species of birds and a significant population of hippos. In the afternoon, I go boating on the lake. Dinner. Accommodation Lake Naivasha Crescent Lodge.
Auto
Giorno 7 — Lake Naivasha → Amboseli National Park
Breakfast. Departure for Amboseli National Park. I arrive at the lodge for lunch. Amboseli National Park covers an area of approximately 392 km² and is one of the most visited and iconic parks in East Africa. Characterised by vast expanses of savannah, swamps, lagoons and a landscape dominated by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is a place of great charm and fascinating landscape contrasts. The park is renowned for its wide variety of wildlife and is one of the best places in Africa to observe elephants in the wild. It is estimated that the park is home to one of the largest populations of African elephants. In addition to elephants, you can also spot buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, hippos and a wide range of birds. Furthermore, Amboseli is an important migration area for birds, which find refuge there during their migratory journey. The Amboseli reserve is also populated by several Masai tribes who live in harmony with the environment, offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of this ancient African ethnic group. In the afternoon, photo safari in the park. Dinner. Accommodation Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
Giorno 8 — Amboseli National Park
Full board at the lodge. Morning and afternoon photosafari. Accommodation Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
Auto
Giorno 9 — Amboseli National Park → Arusha → Lake Manyara National Park → Karatu
Early morning breakfast. Transfer to the border with Tanzania (Namanga), completion of customs formalities, and meeting with the guide who will accompany you for the rest of the trip in Tanzania. Lunch break at Arusha. Departure to Lake Manyara National Park. In the afternoon, photo safari in the park. Lake Manyara is one of the three great lakes that occupy the bottom of the Great Rift Valley, which cuts through Tanzania from north to south: a huge fissure (crack in the Earth's crust) formed about 30 million years ago, starting from the mouth of the Zambezi in Mozambique and ending 6,600 km later in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. The lake is at the base of the most spectacular stretch of the escarpment, covered with large mahogany and fig trees; the park is among the smallest in Tanzania, but the terrain is so varied - lake, forest, swamps, grasslands - that the list of animals living there is one of the most impressive in Tanzania: monkeys, mongooses, hyenas, zebras, hippos, buffalos, giraffes and impalas, elephants, tree-climbing lions; the large flocks of flamingos are spectacular. Continue to the Karatu. Dinner. Accommodation Ngorongoro Marera Mountain View Lodge.
Auto
Giorno 10 — Karatu → Serengeti National Park
Breakfast. Departure for Serengeti National Park. I arrive at the field and have lunch. In the afternoon, photo safari in the park. Serengeti, in the Maasai language "endless plain", is one of the largest wildlife reserves in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located between Kenya and Lake Victoria, it is at the center of the annual Great Migration, when millions of hooves tread its arid and vast plains, with tens of thousands of zebras and gazelles joining the wildebeests in search of new pastures. But even during non-peak periods, the visit never disappoints. Dinner. Accommodation Pamoja Serengeti Luxury Camp.
Giorno 11 — Serengeti National Park
Full board at the camp. Morning and afternoon photosafari. Accommodation Pamoja Serengeti Luxury Camp.
Auto
Giorno 12 — Serengeti National Park → Ngorongoro Conservation Area → Karatu
Breakfast. Departure for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descent into the crater for a day of photosafari, with packed lunch. NgoroNgoro is the enormous crater of an extinct volcano (it could contain Milan twice), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, incomparable for its magnificent natural spectacle and abundance of animals, a fascinating microcosm of East African fauna: lions, elephants, hyenas, wildebeests, gazelles, zebras, leopards, and flamingos; even the rare black rhinoceros. The abundance of wildlife and predators attracts patrols of visitors, but it is a fair price to pay for certain and spectacular sightings. NgoroNgoro is located in Masai territory. Return in the late afternoon to Karatu. Dinner. Accommodation Acacia Farm Lodge.
