Giorno 7 — Damaraland → Etosha National Park
Breakfast. Early in the morning departure for Etosha National Park. Etosha is the focal point of every trip to Namibia. Two million years ago, it was a huge saltwater lake, which left behind a vast salt desert - Etosha saltpan - visible even from space and surrounded by thorny savannah, mopane shrubs, and arid forest. Today, Etosha is one of the most important African wildlife parks, as large as Lazio and Molise combined, with the largest concentration of black rhinos in the world. A 2005 census counted 250 lions, 300 rhinos, 3,000 giraffes, 12,000 zebras, 4,000 wildebeests, 5,500 oryx, and 2,500 elephants; there are at least 20,000 springbok gazelles. Safaris take place along the tracks that connect the waterholes where animals quench their thirst. The driest period, between June and November, is the best time to visit because the animals gather around the scarce waterholes to drink. In the late afternoon, off-road photo safari. Located 4 km from the southern entrance (Andersson's Gate) of Etosha National Park, Etosha Village built in the style of a typical local village (kraal), it has 45 spacious units on raised platforms with private patios among the mopane trees. The units are equipped with air conditioning, private bathrooms with toilet, shower, and sink, electronic safe, power outlets, mini fridge, and tea/coffee making facilities. Etosha Village has three outdoor restaurants for buffet breakfasts and dinners, as well as à la carte lunch options. There is also a bar with satellite TV, three swimming pools, and a well-stocked shop, including souvenirs. Free WiFi is available in the reception and restaurant area. Dinner. Accommodation Etosha Village.
